Team Canada: Help Send Maija
Donation protected
My name is Maija Smith and I am excited to have been chosen to represent Canada at the WORLD SHOW DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS this November in Reisa, Germany! I am 10 years old and have been dancing since I was 3. I currently train more than 15 hours per week and am looking forward to working even harder to represent my country at this prestigious competition.
The International Dance Organization (IDO) is a World Federation with a membership of over 90 Nations, representing more than 250,000 dancers from six continents. This is comparable to the Olympics for us dancers!
Dance is not recognized in Canada as a sporting event, even though many of us dancers train up to 7 days per week, are as flexible as any gymnast, as graceful as figure skaters and as dedicated as any Olympic athlete. Our team will represent our country with pride at the world level. Each dancer is required to raise $3,600.00 to cover our travel (air & ground), choreography, coaches, Team Canada jackets, hotels, and Canadian and International entry fees. In addition, dancers are to cover the costs of costumes, meals, and their chaperones ($2,600.00 each). Each dancer is required to obtain their own sponsors as we do not have any major team sponsors or government support for the Canadian Dance Teams.
Any amount that you could donate to help me reach my goal and represent Canada in Germany would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
