Maintenance cut of Cemetery grass

The Friends of Bethel Sketty Cemetery formed in 2022 when the Cemetery, Chapel and adjacent house were listed for sale. We are a registered member of The National Federation of Cemetery Friends.

Bethel Sketty Cemetery is home to 4000 plots and over 11,000 resting here. Many graves are of historical significance (CWGC Memorials, Rorke’s Drift, 3 nights WWII Swansea Blitz casualties, significant historical figures) as well as those of everyday citizens who contributed to the development of Swansea and its character. Our aims include preserving ongoing safe access for family plot visitation, burials and interments, (including maintenance of required documents) and for the community to enjoy quiet walks and exploration of nature, as well as once again use the traditional right of way passage between adjacent neighbourhoods in the local community.

At the time of the sale the Cemetery had been in a neglected state for some time. We were very pleased that after several discussions last autumn, the new owners, ourselves, and representatives of City and County of Swansea agreed on the terms of a funding formula to support a 2025 Spring First Cut- the first in the last 2-3 years. Professionals recommend a need for 2 more cuts this year and beyond until vegetation is controlled.

First Cut cut will begin soon, we need to fundraise for our Friends’ share of this cut - approximately £1500 pounds (may be higher as awaiting updated quote)

We will gratefully accept all contributions from our “Friends” as well as from the general public.

although a non-profit, we at this point are not a registered Charity and thus are unable to issue tax receipts for donations

Any excess funds raised will be used in support of our “Friends” aims.

Re crowd-funding platform. please be aware: all donations will be processed in GPBs. International donations from most countries are accepted; however, in terms of our Friends’ there are 9 membership countries outside the UK, please note donations from Nigeria are unable to be processed at this time.
