Maizey's Miracle

Donation protected
Maizey is a 9 year old Yorkie who was rescued from a puppy mill a year and a half ago. She has enjoyed a life of freedom but has come across some medical issues due to her life in the mill.

In many puppy mills, the dollar is given priority to the dogs' well-being. Poor nutrition is common. Proper care for pregnant dogs isn't Dogs are bred every heat cycle, meaning that tiny Maizey, who weighs just 5 lbs, likely gave birth to more than a dozen litters of pups. That, combined with the inadequate water supply (many dogs are watered through bottles meant for rabbits and rodents) and no dental care, creates a perfect storm for dental rot and decay. The infection and decay leads to extreme thinning of the jaw bone. This can lead to broken jaw bones.

Maizey's sister, Emmy, just experienced such a thing. Two days after being rescued from a puppy mill, she required extensive surgery for a double-sided broken jaw from the reasons mentioned above. Emmy had a feeding tube for 10 weeks and had to endure a muzzle for 12 weeks before healing occurred.

During Maizey's last dental, in May, it was discovered that she desperately needs to have her K-9's removed, but her jaw is so thin that it will need to be performed by an oral surgeon because there's a strong likelihood that her jaw will break upon removal.

Maizey is a precious soul who has fought so hard against fear and uncertainty since being rescued from a horrific puppy mill. She has learned to trust people slowly and has proven herself to be a true fighter.

Her costs will be extensive due to xrays, sedation, surgery, follow up, and God forbid, if her jaw were to break. the care that will require.

Maizey's parents are extreme dog lovers and would do anything they can for their dogs. They have a heart for senior puppy mill rescues, but the costs in this are, as you can imagine, extensive. They are still paying off costs accrued in caring for Augustus the Tiny Mighty when he became very ill and ultimately crossed the Rainbow Bridge in Jan. 2018.

Anything you can do will help this little girl. She is such a sweet, innocent little soul that has overcome many obstacles against her. Thank you!
