Major John Timothy (Jack Tim)

With the new SOC coming around the corner imminently, we're looking to raise some money to buy a plaque for our new Security Operations Centre to commemorate ⁠Major John Timothy (Jack Tim), an M&S store manager who served in the Second World War in the Grenadier Guards as a Private Soldier, and then in the new Parachute Regiment as an Officer.

After an incredibly distinguished career in the Army, Major Tim returned to his position as a store manager for Marks & Spencer until his retirement in 1972.

Major Timothy serves as an example of the incredible feats of courage and heroism that every day individuals are capable of, and a memorial to commemorate him would fit perfectly in our Security Operations Centre to remember all who served for the safety of others.

He took part in operations "Market Garden", "Biting", "Torch" and "Simcol", and was awarded 3 Military Crosses, the 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, Africa Star, France & Germany Star, and the Italy Star. He was the first British officer to be awarded American Parachute Wings.

I will be taking part in a weighted walk up and over Pen Y Fan and back with a 20KG daysack with any members of the M&S team or M&S Forces Community who would like to join.

The walk will serves as a way to raise awareness of the community for M&S, and to raise money for the plaque. Anything left after the cost of plaque will go towards the Royal British Legion (RBL).
