Hiatus will be a Bay Area coffee pop-up, an intersect of how coffee makes people feel & the people who foster those experiences for others. My goal with this crowdfund is to get Hiatus off the ground.
ABOUT US
Hi, I'm Cris. I've been in coffee for over a decade—most of that in specialty coffee: as a barista, trainer, technician, competitor, coach, content creation, & quality control. In my time I've visited coffee farms, exporting operations, interviewed small scale producers—but most importantly begun friendships that have gone far beyond work. I've competed at the national level of the US Barista Championship, as well as coaching two competitors all the way into semi-finals. Through all of this, I've been taught that coffee has incredible potential for flavour, with a broader spectrum for expression that the industry is still exploring. I've learned excellence is not self-wrought but is the product of proficiency & collaboration across the entire supply stream: a high level of performance wed to a high level of trust.
VISION
Hiatus refers to a moment. I want this coffee experience to become a setting where folks can pause. Stop. Breathe. My goal with Hiatus is a genesis as a pop-up operation. In my time in specialty coffee, I’ve had chances to meet some of the coffee farmers that grow coffees very special to me, & I've been gifted opportunities to prepare specialty coffee in a variety of cities & settings. But I'd ultimately love to carve out a little nook in the Bay I call home.
Hiatus will showcase a menu lineup that both highlights the flavour potential for specialty coffee & accessibility for new coffee lovers. And to ensure quality, Hiatus will be partnering with Saint Frank Coffee, a roaster with a background in relational sourcing—a strength truly highlighted when they adopted coffees orphaned during the pandemic. This is a company committed to both its producers & delicious coffee.
With the generosity of friends & family, I have been able to raise most of the funding I need to get Hiatus off the ground. The money I'm trying to crowdfund will help me acquire the remaining large ticket items like a cart buildout, a commercial refrigerator, & commercial coffee grinders.

When we reach our goals, there are rewards that backers can receive. Any rewards are eligible to be transferred as gift. In-person rewards limited to the Bay Area.
As there is not a built-in tier system in GFM, I will do my best to monitor the upper tier rewards , but thosewill be first-come, first-served.

- I will pop-up for you for 1.5 hours for any group smaller than 20. This essentially coffee-catering, which you can use for any occasion or gift- birthday for a coffee lover, a work event, a family gathering. Scheduling will require a 2 month notice & will currently not apply during Hiatus hours.
