Make Hunza Greener- Adopt a Tree
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Sobia Baig and I am supporting Hunza community's Project of planting thousands of timber wood and fruit trees along with re-alignment and restoration of water channel (MURKU).
Karimabad valley is situated on the western bank of the Hunza River, nestled in the northern areas of Pakistan. It is located within a valley at an elevation of 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) above sea level.
This initiative aims to establish plantation that will not only contribute to the local economy but also promote environmental conservation and biodiversity.
It is important to mention here that this project is already underway with the help of community efforts and AKRSP. The water channel required to irrigate saplings has already been fixed. With its favorable climatic conditions, fertile soil and most importantly community involvement presents an ideal setting for a sustainable plantation project. To give a much needed push to this ongoing project, we are short of only 3000 GBP (PKR 11,00,000). The area which will be fenced with the help of this fund is around 119000 square feet including a water reservoir which needs to be built. A detailed financial report will be uploaded once the target is achieved.
Hunza valley has already seen the impacts of climate change through landslides resulting in internally displaced families, flooding caused by melting glaciers and extreme weather conditions. By leveraging the region's natural resources and implementing sustainable agricultural practices, this project seeks to create a thriving plantation project that benefits both the community and the environment.
