Make My Dream a Reality: Supporting My Graduate Education

Donation protected
Dear friends and supporters,

My name is Fanta Ballo, I am a poet, teaching artist and author. I write to you today with a heart full of hope and a deep sense of gratitude. After four long years since I graduated with my bachelor’s degree, I’m ready to return to the world of academia. I have been accepted into a Master's program in Creative Writing and Publishing—a dream I’ve held onto for as long as I can remember. This program is my gateway to becoming a professor, where I can inspire and nurture future generations of writers, and also to launching my own publishing company, amplifying voices that often go unheard.

However, despite all my hard work and dedication, I unfortunately was denied admission to every fully-funded program I applied to. This has left me in a difficult position, forcing me to figure out how to pay for my education out of pocket. The remaining amount I need to cover my full tuition for the whole degree is $20,000. I know that this is a significant sum, but it is a stepping stone that will help me transform my passion into a purpose-driven career. As a poet, activist, and artist, I believe deeply in the power of words to shape society, to build bridges, and to heal. This is not just about an academic achievement; it’s about my ability to use the knowledge I gain to make a lasting impact on the world.

My journey so far has not been easy. As a young person with big dreams but limited resources, I have faced many challenges along the way. I took out loans for my undergraduate degree, and as much as I believe in the value of education, I know that accumulating more debt is something I don’t want to repeat. I want to build a future without the heavy burden of loans hanging over me. Still, I have remained resilient because I know the importance of education, and I understand that through it, I can do more than just survive—I can thrive and help others do the same. This degree will equip me with the tools I need to open doors not just for myself, but for others in my community who are pursuing similar dreams.

I know that $20,000 is a lot to ask for, but I believe in the power of collective support. If you are able to contribute, you will not only be helping me achieve my dream, but you will also be helping me give back to the world in ways I can only imagine right now. Every dollar, every share of my story, brings me one step closer to the future I know I am meant to create.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for considering supporting my education. Your belief in me will echo through my work as a writer, a teacher, and a publisher. I am not just asking for money—I’m asking for a chance to turn my vision into something tangible, to ensure that the next generation of writers and creatives have a space to thrive.

Thank you for your generosity, your time, and your belief in the power of art and education.

With all my gratitude,
Fanta Ballo
