Founded in January 2021 by two parents, a student, and a teacher, Make Us Visible seeks to empower local communities to become more civically engaged and politically active through advocacy, ensuring the inclusion of Asian American history in K-12 curriculums. We see this work as a long-term preventative measure against future anti-Asian American bullying and violence. As a 100% volunteer-driven coalition, we have successfully established 5 laws across 3 states over the last year, with 11 active state chapters and several more incoming. We've been covered by outlets including NBC Asian America, Axios, CNN, Vox , USA Today , and The Washington Post.
We're excited to share that Admerasia x Make Us Visible have partnered to publish an updated version of our coloring book History is Colorful: Asian American Pioneers. Your donation will go toward stipends for our local artists and printing/shipping fees. This version will highlight localized histories we've learned about in our journey together, such as:
- Lue Gim Gong, who was nicknamed the 'citrus wizard of Florida' for his contribution to the orange-growing industry
- Jane Luu, who discovered the Kuiper belt
- Pio DeCano, who fought through the court system to be the first Asian American to own land in Washington
- Fazlur Rahman Khan, who designed the world’s tallest building in 1973 and ushered in a renaissance in skyscraper construction in the 20th century
- Pui Chan, who built the first Kung Fu temple in the United States
We will share additional distribution details in early 2023 with everyone. Any remaining funds from this fundraiser will support community and educational events and efforts bringing parents, students, teachers, and neighbors together in our state chapters.
Thank you for supporting our advocates' efforts all across the country. We're excited to continue working together to ensure Asian American history is included in K-12 schools everywhere!
