Make-A-Wish Crossbar Challenge
Conan Byrne and Brendan Clarke are embarking on a nationwide Crossbar Challenge tour to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland.
Conan, a former SSE Airtricity League football player and now primary school teacher and Brendan, goalkeeper for Shelbourne FC will visit each of the 20 League of Ireland grounds during a three-day blitz. The fundraiser is starting on Saturday 11th December and finishing on Monday 13th December.
They will undertake the challenge of striking the crossbar with shots from the half-way line.
Up first is their former home of Richmond Park then across the city to Bohemians and Shelbourne before they leave Dublin behind and head up the M1 to Drogheda and Dundalk.
The north-west holy trinity of Derry City, Finn Harps and Sligo Rovers will be visited before they hunker down for the night.
Up bright and breezy on Sunday morning, the deadly duo take in Longford Town, Athlone Town, Galway United, Treaty United, Cobh Ramblers and Cork City before they finish the trek on Monday dropping into Waterford, Wexford, Bray, Cabinteely, UCD and Shamrock Rovers.
“On behalf of our wish children and their families, thank you Conan and Brendan for participating in this challenge in an effort to raise funds for our charity,” said Susan McQuaid-O’Dwyer, chief executive of Make-A-Wish
“The Make-A-Wish team wishes you the best of luck as you make your way around each club to compete in a crossbar challenge.
“We cannot do the work we do without the support of generous people like yourselves. The money you raise will help us grant wishes to the 200 children on our waiting list living with life-threatening illnesses.”
Conan and Brendan would also like to thank Precision Ireland, Reydon Sports and GoCar for their sponsorship and generosity in supporting their charity event.
