On behalf of regional artists, we pleased to extend to you an exclusive invitation to invest in MAKERS • 365 Capital Region Creatives/Social Photographs by Richard Lovrich, presented in partnership with Albany Center Gallery, the Upstate Alliance for the Creative Economy (ACE) and The ALT Weekly.

MAKERS began as a social media experiment as much as a body of work. Photographer Richard Lovrich captured portraits of 365 creatives who reside in or have passed through the Capital Region. In this first phase, Richard shared each portrait on Instagram and Facebook to expose creatives to one another and the public, develop creative connections, and reinforce a positive message about the region’s creative economy.


ACG is pleased to present the second phase of MAKERS as a physical exhibition that will be displayed June 20 to July 21. Our audiences will meet 365 fellow humans, vulnerable, guarded, cheerful or wistful in this portrait gallery of inspirational individuals who contribute in their own ways to the creative world around them. There will also be four live MAKERS 365 CONNECTIONS panel discussions (one each week of the exhibition), which will offer insight into the minds and lives of creatives, taking the exhibit into a multi-faceted reach in live interaction, on social media and into the news. Due to what we expect will be an historically high opening night and show-run attendance, owing to the popular subject matter and the large number of subject participants, MAKERS will be a very high profile investment for its supporters. … MAKERS 365 won’t stop when the exhibition ends.

After the ACG exhibition closes on July 21, MAKERS, as coordinated by ACE, will travel to exhibition locations within the Capital Region’s eight counties. The traveling exhibit model is inspired by the successful Breathing Lights project that took place in 3 counties over 6 months in 2016-17.  Building on that model, MAKERS will reach all eight Capital Region counties—Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington—and each exhibit will be tailored to highlight the creatives who call each county their home.

Breathing Lights’ creative approach brought attention to neglected buildings in the region and demonstrated that art has a transformative power. It makes us think differently about our communities and the challenges they face. Similarly, MAKERS highlights the important roles that creatives play in energizing and unifying their workplaces and communities. By showing the diversity of the creatives who live in the Capital Region, Richard Lovrich shines a spotlight on a myriad of creative outlets and sources of income that the Region experiences as a result; our MAKERS are chefs, tattoo artists, performance artists, musicians, actors, traditional fine artists, professors, street artists, and more; they all pour value into the community simply by creating.

Creativity adds optimism, happiness and a unique flair to our communities. It boosts the economy by attracting the very best talent to our area. Creativity is everywhere in the Capital Region. MAKERS illuminates our region’s creative treasures so their value as artists and an economic engine can be recognized, nurtured and celebrated. Every investment in MAKERS will support the production of the initial exhibition and launch of the travel exhibition.
