Fatherlessness has become a major point of contingency in our society. Secure father–child attachment relationships exhibit socioemotional benefits such as: more sociability, stronger friendships, self-efficacy, and fewer behavioral problems among children (Brown, G. L., Mangelsdorf, S. C., Shigeto, A., & Wong, M. S. (2018). According to the United States Census Bureau more than a quarter of the 121 million men in the United States are biological fathers of at least one child under the age of 18 . Less than 6.0% (about 2 million) of all fathers of minor children are “solo” dads but 20.2% (about 7 million) are “absent” dads of all of their minor children (Bureau, U. S. C. (2020, August 18). Our Goal at AFFR Inc. is to help fathers be present and prevalent in their children's lives.
I personally became a single father and experienced firsthand the struggles of raising my two girls on my own. I needed to change my life to accommodate our new situation. I received no help or direction outside of my family during the process. It was during this time that I thought about creating an organization to help single fathers like myself. Throughout my life I found myself helping single fathers by providing support and advice on court processes, co-parenting and joint custody proceedings. My personal desire was to watch these fathers take on an active role in their children’s lives.
A Father’s Rights and Responsibilities (AFFR) Inc. is an organization committed to providing just opportunities, programs, and resources to families of single or estranged parent households. We are an organization that advocates for children in single parent homes by providing direct support for them as well as their fathers.
