At Dick's Organics (501c3 non-profit farm), it is our fervent belief that those in need should be provided fresh and nutritious food rather than the leftovers that others reject. Our 35+ volunteers cultivate, grow, and harvest organic and sustainable produce for the marginalized people of our community who deserve to be nourished with healthy food. Much of our produce is donated to the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen.
The farm also serves the community with an open arms approach showcasing organic methods of growing produce. It is a space for educational opportunities and events for volunteers, collegiate groups, K-12 students and all who are interested in learning to grow food, help the community, and care for rescue animals.
Situated on 7 acres of farmland in Southern Fort Wayne, Indiana, Dick’s Organics is host to tillable fields, a 500+ fruit tree orchard, fenced grazing areas, a large livestock barn, greenhouses, a small animal coop, and a drying shed. It provides a home for honeybees, native bees, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, beneficial insects, and mid-size rescue animals such as donkeys, alpaca, sheep, and goats.
Dick’s Organics is Certified Naturally Grown, a 4-star Purdue Extension sustainable property, a Homegrown by Heroes operation, member of Indiana Farmers Union and it maintains an organic and sustainable approach in all of its practices. This effort is led by Rick Ritter MSW, a disabled veteran and retired trauma therapist, who is an Advanced Master Gardener, Master Naturalist, beekeeper, and Cofounder of the Three Rivers Fruit Growers Club.
