Making memories for Aaron
Hello, my name is Rachel and I am fundraising for a very special boy named Aaron. I have had the pleasure over the last 12 months of being his Reception teacher. Aaron is 5 years old. He is the most loving, caring and funny little boy who has the most gorgeous smile that simply melts your heart.
Aaron has had to face so much pain in his short life. In April 2020, at the start of the Covid pandemic, he was diagnosed with a very rare and very aggressive brain tumour (anaplastic ependymoma). He endured 10 hours of surgery that resulted in the full removal of the tumour. Unfortunately he needed a prolonged stay in hospital from the effects of the operation, and was very poorly for some time. He had 2 occurrences of surgical meningitis and fluid build up on the brain which required emergency surgery. This all led to a loss of speech, an inability to swallow and permanent weakness.
Six weeks of radiotherapy followed, which Aaron powered through. He improved so much that he was able to start full time school and became a much loved and popular member of the class.
Devastatingly, in June of this year, Aaron suffered a major relapse which resulted in further substantial brain surgery taking 11 hours to complete. Once again he had a prolonged stay in hospital, only to be told 8 weeks later that the tumour had returned. In August a third operation took place where the whole tumour was removed.
The chances of a cure for Aaron are heartbreakingly low (less than 5%). Understandably both of Aaron's parents are unable to work full time due to hospital stays and being with Aaron during treatment.
The aim of this fundraiser is to take away financial worry and help the family to create memories at this horrendous time.
Please give whatever you can for our special superhero.
