Making memories for Bella

Hi, I am Kelly; I am raising funds for my best friend's family's daughter Bella. She is seven years old and has been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. There are different variations of sarcoma, but doctors are still waiting for Bella's genetic testing results. Doctors have said this type of sarcoma is more common in adults and unusual in children. Bella has gone through two surgeries and one round of chemotherapy thus far, and there are further surgeries planned for Bella to coincide with multiple chemos and radiotherapy treatments. Doctors have estimated 4 - 6 months of treatments. Bella has had to stop going to school; she is in year 2, has missed nearly two months of schooling, seeing her friends, and missing fun extracurriculars.

Bella has a five-year-old brother Charlie; he has had to adapt to the current situation and doesn't understand the total capacity of Bella's health. Both Bella's parents are having to stop working as the appointments, and hospital visits are so unpredictable. Each day changes, and so many things are thrown their way.

I have set up a mum's group to support the Schermuly family. We have been providing food boxes once a month for those unpredictable overnight to weekly stays at the hospital. We have given Bella and Charlie a craft box to keep some family activities together. We have set up a post box in Bella's class to send her some letters, pictures or anything that would brighten up her day.

The Schermuly family would never ask for any of this, they are overwhelmed by the support they have received so far. We would love to do more for them to help take the burden off them financially as they are unable to work with the current unpredictable situation they are facing, as well as being unable to work they have a 5 year old to look after. It would be great to use some funds for Bella to enjoy some days out with her family when she is not having chemo and is well enough to do this. We plan to do various activities to raise funds, from climbing Pen Y Fan (26th June 2022) to Brecon Beacons (September/October 2022) and Bristol-based activities with the kids involved.
