Making Music Education a Priority

Help Crestone Performances make the San Luis Valley a better place to call home! Every little bit helps, but if you can help more often, contact us about setting up a monthly donation.
Crestone Performances executive director, Lydia Sprouts, and the board are banding together to raise funds for our organization to continue funding its 3 main services:
- The Crestone Music Festival
The Crestone Music Festival is an important cultural opportunity to share in the diversity that exists through music outside of the valley and offers our community an important way to connect. We have vending & job opportunities for locals that can contribute positively to the economy here. Including bringing in people from other places to participate in the festival, and add to our tourism.
- The Youth Enrichment Program (YEP)
We use the money for this program to buy instruments and lessons for middle and high school kids with this program. They also can apply to be granted art supplies, dance lessons, or for art camps outside of the valley. We host a monthly Youth Open Mic for skill sharing, experience, and giving kids the opportunity to show what they have learned. We are also looking to fundraise for a classroom set of ukuleles for the Charter School. Our YEP program brings in performances to the Saguache County school district, to inspire and uplift students. Performances also frequently include an educational component and a cultural diversity element.
- The Intergenerational Music Education Program
Music education should not stop when school ends, and we believe that more people learning music and playing together make a better world. We fund programs for adults and kids to come together and learn music skills through programs like our All Ages Ableton workshop, Bluegrass jams, drumming workshops and more. We aim to create a healthy community of musical people.
We serve the greater San Luis Valley, where music education is sparse, often not taught in schools, and can be unaffordable for most families here. We must create opportunities for education, experience, and music in the valley.
These programs are important to our community because we believe that music serves to knit a community together, creating a diverse community culture. Music education contributes to overall personal wellness and wholeness. And ultimately gives us all something fun to do together, where poverty is extensive, and resources for wholesome activities are limited.
