Malakai's Wish To Walk

Donation protected
Malakai was born 6 weeks prematurely, weighing only 3.8lbs. He had to spend 12 days in the NICU. As Malakai grew he started missing milestones and we suspected something medical was going on.

On October 17, 2018 at 17 months old, Malakai was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy with his left side being more affected. He has spasticity in his body that makes the muscles in his limbs very tight and stiff. He has difficulties with balance, coordination and muscle control. These difficulties along with low muscle tone in his core means that Kai is unable to sit, crawl, stand or walk unsupported at the age of 22 months.

On December 17, 2018 Malakai had an MRI to determine the cause of his cerebral palsy. The results showed that from being born early he had brain damage called PVL resulting in CP.

We do daily exercises, and physiotherapy at home along with therapy appointments at the Ottawa Childrens Treatment Centre every couple of weeks in hopes that we can build muscle in his core and help loosen those tight muscles in his arms and legs.

Equipment essential to have at home for Malakai's progress and additional costs of having a child with special needs is extremely expensive and even after funding from available programs we are still left with high costs to be able to purchase this equipment and care for Malakai.

As a parent all you want to be able to do is provide the best possible life for your child. We are hoping that one day we will be able to witness Malakai sit unsupported, stand and hopefully one day take his first steps. We want to make Malakai's wish to walk a reality and give him the opportunity to go and explore and play like other children his age. Without this essential equipment, the possibility of Malakai one day being able to walk drastically decreases as early intervention will give him the best results.

So please help us out and share, share, share and spread the word!! And if you can donate anything along the way it would be so greatly appreciated by us and most certainly by our little boy Malakai who works so hard everyday in hopes that he will one day be able to do things that people take for granted everyday.
