MALAWI 60TH INDEPENDENCE FUND RAISING FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

*Our Mission*

Dear Friends and Global Family,

My name is Alexander Chitenje, Treasurer of The Malawi UK Military Community. On behalf of all Malawians in UK, it is with great pleasure this fund raising has come upon as part of the 60 Malawi Independence Celebrations on 6 July 24.

We are launching an urgent appeal for the people of Malawi, who are facing an unprecedented crisis due to severe floods and devastating heatwaves. These extreme weather events have drastically reduced food production, leaving many families without enough to eat. Additionally, the floods have displaced thousands, creating an immediate need for shelter, food, and basic supplies.

*Why We Need Your Help*

Malawi is one of the world's least developed countries, and the recent natural disasters have pushed the limits of local resilience. The majority of the population relies on subsistence farming, but the floods have destroyed crops, and the subsequent heatwaves have made recovery impossible this season. With little government capacity to respond effectively and limited access to international aid, the people of Malawi urgently need our help to secure the basics for survival.

*How Your Donation Will Help*

We have set a goal to raise £15,000, which will directly fund the following urgent needs:

*Food Distribution*

Your donations will help purchase essential food items like maize, beans, cooking oil, and rice, which will be distributed directly to families who have been most affected by the crisis.

*Emergency Shelter and Supplies*

Funds will also support temporary shelter solutions for families who have lost their homes to floods. This includes providing tents, blankets, and basic hygiene kits.

*Rebuilding and Recovery Efforts*

As the immediate needs are addressed, remaining funds will be directed towards helping communities rebuild their homes and plant new crops for the next harvesting season.

*Transparency and Accountability*

We commit to full transparency and accountability. We will provide regular updates on how funds are being used and the impact they are having on the ground, complete with photos and stories from those you are helping. Every dollar you donate will go directly towards relief and recovery efforts; administrative costs are being covered by grants and other funding.
