MALAWI FLOODS - DISASTER RELIEF
Donation protected
Cyclone Freddy made landfall in Mozambique and Malawi over the weekend of 10 – 12 March. The heavy rains triggered floods and mudslides that have displaced 114,637 households and 508,244 people. 499 have died and 427 more are missing. A state of disaster has been declared in the 14 districts that have been affected.
As Malawian women living in the Diaspora, one of the main goals of our network is to participate in events that take place in the motherland by championing, supporting, and contributing to awareness, information, communication; and visibility drives and fundraising campaigns from outside Malawi. We have, therefore, added our voice to numerous calls for urgent assistance, particularly for the women and children who have lost all their belongings and are currently sheltering in camps in southern Malawi.
