Malawi Scout Expedition 2025

My name is Edward Rickard, and I am 17. I will be undertaking a month-long expedition to Malawi in August 2025 organised through Explorer Scouts.

The main focus of our expedition is an extremely important project to improve and expand local schools in remote communities. Previous Explorer Scout expeditions have included tasks such as painting classrooms and installing fly-nets to prevent the spread of malaria as well as constructing entirely new buildings to be used as dormitories. The main reason for this was the fact that the school had not only seen a reduction in the number of young girls able to travel to school every day but also the ever-increasing number of them kidnapped mid-journey to be forced into arranged marriages. The Explorer Scouts project in which the new dorms were constructed saw a significant improvement in grades across the school as well as a vastly increased proportion of young girls continuing to further education and university in the region. Our mission for 2025 will be a similar project across multiple schools changing the lives of students and teachers for the better.
