It is with great sadness and disbelief that we report the loss of a great friend, daughter and mother – Malissa Walker. She will be greatly missed. Malissa was a down to earth, humble, funny, creative, and most of all a truly genuine person. Malissa is survived by her husband, mother and three minor children.
Like many of us, this family has had many challenges these last 5 years and its greatest test will be dealing with the loss of the beloved Malissa. Having lost everything in the 2018 Camp Fire nothing can compare to this.
Malissa suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for many years. Recently she had started treatments in an effort to slow the progression of this cruel disease that contributed to her death. Even with her health challenges she showed great tenacity and pushed through the rough days and did everything she could for her family and friends. Malissa was the kind of friend that you didn’t have to talk to everyday but could pick up where you left off when you did talk. She was an amazingly talented person who loved her family beyond measure.
After the Camp Fire in 2018 we saw a community come together out of the ashes and lift each other up. We are hoping to continue this spirit and help this family with the tragic loss of Malissa. As you can imagine life has changed overnight, and the magnitude of this loss could not be planned for in advance. We would like to give this dear friend and amazing woman the “goodbye for now” she deserves. If you can help, even if it’s a little, it will assist her family with the unexpected expenses. All donations will go toward her funeral and a celebration of her beautiful life. Please help us show her the love she showed us.
Out of respect for Malissa, photos will not be shared. Those of us with them will hold them close to our hearts and cherish our memories forever. Her oldest son is creating a beautiful plaque in memory of his mom, and it holds more power than any photo could ever do.
