Parenting group calls for mother, child kit donations
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 30 —The Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM) calls out for donations to the 370 females and 560 children who were affected by the ongoing Marawi siege.
As of May 28, there are already 120 and 250 females in Buru-un and Ma. Cristina evacuation centers respectively along with 160 and 400 children who are seeking for relief operations.
The target recipients of the MNM will be provided with a “malong” (Maranao garb) pack that comprises 5 water bottles, 5 easy-to-open canned goods, 1 dozen shampoo sachet, 3 pieces of soap, 18 pieces of diapers, 2 packs of sanitary pads, 1 face towel, 2 toothbrushes, 6 toothpaste sachets, 1 pack baby wipes, 1 bottle of isopropyl alcohol and baby clothes.
The contents are specifically intended for mothers with children below 2 years old and as of May 29, 5PM, the MNM has collected 97 malong packs from in kind and cash donations.
“Malong” is preferred by the group as it can be used as skirt for both men and women, turban, dress, blanket, sunshade, bed sheet, dressing room, hammock, prayer mat, baby carries and many others.
Interested donors may buy the items in bulk for easy packing of contents. Cash donations are also accepted and would help in speeding up the purchase and delivery of the items in bulk.
As of May 29, 4PM, there are already 1,432 families or 7,439 persons who have fled from Marawi City as a result of the ongoing clash. About 691 families or 3,688 persons are housed in evacuation centers.(RTPaculba)
