Mami says thank you . . .

Dear friends and family of Rhonda,

Dear lovers of cats and other pet-companions,


As you know Rhonda has been on disability for several years now and is completely dependent on the government. Until summer 2020 her income was just marginally more than her rent, food and utilities, her medical expenses, and Mami's food and medical expenses. The photo shows Mami getting her first subcutaneous saline bag, given by her devoted human carer, Rhonda, photo'd by me about three years ago. Early in 2020 Mami's health deteriorated and in the summer of 2021 Rhonda accepted that Mami’s quality of life required the Big Sleep. We had a small online gathering and we chanted a Buddhist mantra while Mami was sent on her way to the Rainbow Bridge.

So, Rhonda was Mami's lifelong companion and carer, Mami was Rhonda's friend and companion for sixteen years. I met Mami many times, the best kitty in the Whole Wide World. I know, perhaps more than any, the love, care, and devotion she received from Rhonda, and how much she meant to Rhonda.

Before Mami's decline, which gradually cost more as the months went on, Rhonda had also committed the last of her savings to her own essential dental treatments, which amounted to a re-structuring of her bite to prevent further and progressive misalignment, which would have resulted in disfigurement and necessitated surgery. There is still more work to be done to bolster the gains made, but the bulk of the work has been done.

Rhonda is now in debt for about $1,200, having reduced it from $2,500 in the past eight months, and this is an appeal to you her friends, and you her family, and you who love kitties and animals and want to say thank you, to help her get out of debt and also to give her a fund towards future medical expenses. 

Her dental project is not yet complete, some work being needed for her front teeth, which will prevent future damage. The completion of this project requires a further $1,200. 

Right now Rhonda's income is a little more than her day to day expenses and the difference is meticulously going towards her debt. 

I've set the target for $10,000, but really, every little bit helps and the essential thing is to get Rhonda out of debt and able to proceed with her dental plan. Hopefully we’ll raise enough for a ‘rainy’ day fund, and possibly a travel fund, a break from the routine of Lesley Terrace, the Independent Living Community in which she is living and which has been a great benefit to her. 

Rhonda also currently needs psychotherapy to address trauma stemming from childhood, but there are no therapists available under her medical insurance. The same applies for a psychiatrist, which she needs to re-evaluate her psychiatric medication. Her General Physician always reminds her to find these two professionals but is unable to refer her to one in her insurance network as there are none currently available.
