Mammung the Film

MAMMUNG is a collaborative film project between human rights filmmaker Maevia Griffiths and International Lawyer Lillian Robb. The Noongar people of Western Australia are one of the few cultures on earth with a living memory of the last time the sea level rose. MAMMUNG the film explores these stories of adaptation and change as guided by Dr Noel Nannup, and asks how we can incorporate these stories: imagining a pathway forward in which indigenous knowledge can be heard and understood.

During the first phase of the project, we spent two months in Perth in a period of intensive development with a 10,000 USD budget. We were able to produce a 40-minute first iteration of the film that went above and beyond our expectations. We were struck by the extreme level of enthusiasm and support that we received at every point - gifted, free of charge or obligation, drone footage, the time of a videographer, scientific maps and imagery not previously shown on film, data, whale song recordings, and numerous hours of free time from people willing to contribute simply out of support for the project.

However, in order to complete the post-production for this film, cover our costs, hire cinema space for a premiere in Perth and Geneva, and submit the film to festivals, we need to raise a considerable extra budget of 10,000 AUD. Doing so will allow us to complete the project, rounding out the significant work that has gone into it so far by all those who have contributed, as well as to grasp the momentum and energy that this project has created and potentially gain the interest of additional funders or producers to expand it to a feature-length film.
