Manchester Marathon for Shelter
Hi, I'm Izzy!
I am running the Manchester Marathon 2025 on behalf of Shelter, a charity where helping people find a home is the heart of their mission. Homelessness is a big issue in the UK, particularly in Manchester, with the highest rate of homelessness in the northwest (Shelter 2023). Shelter works to ensure there is a secure and affordable home for everyone. It is a truly great charity, defending the right for people to have a safe home.
This marathon means a lot to me on many levels.
Being able to give back to my new Manchester community after living here for half a year is really special- especially finishing at the University!
On a personal note, this marathon is a symbol of how far I have come from four years ago, when I suffered from an eating disorder. To even think about attempting such a physical challenge back then was totally out of the question. But, now I am proud to say I have learned to fuel my body, and strive for strength in a balanced and healthy way.
I want to share a message to people who might be struggling in a similar way, that our bodies are vessels for the abundant and exciting life that lies ahead and taking care of them opens up opportunities to so many kinds of happiness. Food is fuel and I shall be eating a lot of it to get me through this race!
I am so grateful for this opportunity and how running has helped me in so many ways. I really appreciate any support and donations if you are able to- it means a lot to me and will make a big difference to the Shelter team, working to transform lives, starting with a safe home.
