The Manjula Gupta Foundation is a non-profit organization or 501(c)(3). We strive to carry on the legacy of Manjula Gupta, my grandmother, who was passionate about girls’ education in New Delhi, India: her hometown. We want to project her message by improving educational quality and opportunities for females across the globe, whether it be vocational, primary, secondary, or higher education.
As of 2018, the female literacy rate was 82.768%, and the male literacy rate was 89.838%. That means the literacy rate for females across the globe is 7.07% lower than men. Now you must be thinking “7.07% is a pretty small percentage,” however it’s a lot larger than you may think. With a world population of 7.954 billion people, that means that approximately 562,347,800 more females are illiterate than men. Still not surprised? To put that into perspective, that’s the combination of the United States and Pakistan, the 3rd and 5th most populated countries in the world, respectively. Thats A LOT of people!
The Manjula Gupta Foundation works to increase educational quality and opportunities for females all over the world, starting with the most vulnerable countries. This gender gap is generally cause by societal or cultural values, a lack of resources (supplies and/or teachers), or the inability to access to a school.
