Hello. my name is Manny. I am a Master Barber here on Galveston Island. I had not worked in over a year and a half due to a severe spinal infection. I have had two very long and painful surgeries on my spine. I was in the hospital and rehabilitation facility for over sixty-five days and months of physical therapy and occupational therapy at home. Plus having to relearn to walk, before I could go back to work. I reopened my barber shop on August 1st, 2022. I would work only a couple of hours a day. MY spouse/beloved would sit in the shop and read a book while I worked. I was happy.
The customers came back, they had been waiting for my return, within a month I was doing six to eight customers a day. things were looking up. Then in the last week of September, they started rebuilding the road on my street. We were told that new storm drains, power lines, gas lines and water lines were going to be put in and then the road paved over.
You can guess what happened, my customers could not get to my shop without putting in much effort. I would have one to six customers a week!!! In six months they finished one block. Now they have covered the front of my whole block and half of the sidewalk. I am now screwed, how am I supposed to support myself, and pay my rent, my bills, and groceries???
As of March 31, 2023, Manny's Traditional Barber Shop will be PERMANENTLY CLOSED!!!
I survived two hurricane floods, an economic recession, a mandatory shutdown due to Covid, and a 1 1/2-year closure due to a severed spinal column. My barber business survived all that adversity for (17+) seventeen plus years. And now I am out of business, and I am a recent widower, having lost the LOVE OF MY LIFE of 31 years. I am in the middle of grieving for my lost LOVE. I can't stop sobbing.
How much is one man supposed to take? I am only human, when will the suffering end? Is there not Mercy, Compassion, or Pity from life, from God?
Online Friends have suggested I start this gofundme page. Well, here it is.
