Help Manolo in Peru

WHO: Manolo
WHERE: Huánuco, Peru. A large but poor city in the foothills of the Andes mountains.
WHAT: Manolo needs a miracle! At the age of 7, Manolo fell 30 ft and broke 4 vertebrae. It was later discovered he also has muscular dystrophy. His mother was lost to cancer 2 years ago, leaving Manolo and his 4 siblings to be cared for by their father. Manolo Sr. struggles to provide for his children and be a personal caretaker for his son round the clock.
Manolo is bedridden as his family has neither health insurance for physical therapists and doctors, nor the means to buy a neurologic wheelchair to aid Manolo in participating even the most basic activities of daily living.
After raising money to transport Manolo to the capital city, Lima, for evaluation, he was told that there is no surgical intervention that can help him. Weeks later, he is still far from home and seeking assistance with physical therapy, a neurologic wheelchair for mobilization (expensive and hard to obtain in Peru), and further diagnostic tests.
HOW: Manolo's miracle will be to able to leave his bed, to see the sky outside, to feed himself, to learn to read, and to have a chance at a life with his family and the people who love him.
WHY: Sara and Toby are missionaries working in Peru. They came to know Manolo and his family through their ministry and became close after hearing his story. Sara has worked tirelessly; arranging transport across the mountains to Lima, raising money for tests and treatment, navigating the labrynth of the peruvian health care system, and providing support for Manolo and his father. Please join us in helping a young man receive basic care that can dramatically improve his quality of life. This is one person for whom we CAN make a difference.
