Manuels recovery, post emergency brain surgery

Hello everyone, It’s never easy or fun when life throws a massive wrench into your life plans, which is exactly what happened to Manuel, where his life was flipped upside down and backwards.

On the evening of Jan 16, 2024 our friends Manuel, Sara and their beautiful children experienced a trauma no one should ever have to endure as a young family. Manuel called his wife Sara in the evening while she was at work, and the kids were sleeping. He expressed to her that he was experiencing an extreme headache that he had never felt before, he described it as a constant brain freeze that wouldn’t go away.

Sara and Manuel talked, and decided it was a good idea to call an ambulance as this was not a normal thing for Manuel. Sara decided to leave work, and called the paramedics on her way home, when she got home, her and Manuel anxiously waited for the ambulance to arrive. When the paramedics arrived they assessed Manuel and decided it was a good idea to take him to the hospital. At first, they were going to take him to the nearest hospital, which was not a trauma center.

On the way, Manuel experienced some more concerning symptoms that prompted the paramedics to change course and take him to the trauma center in Winnipeg. Manuel reached the hospital, the doctors ran diagnostics as soon as he got there and realized Manuel was suffering from a large brain hemorrhage and needed to surgery right away.

At 03:30 AM on Jan 17, 2024 Manuel was rushed to the OR for emergency brain surgery. He made it through the surgery, but unfortunately went into a tonic-clonic seizure and needed to be heavily sedated to protect the integrity of his brain.

2 whole days passed, of worrying, praying, pleading and hoping that Manuel would pull through this and wake up. Sara drove back and forth each day, 1.5 hours each way to see and be with Manuel while he was being looked after in ICU. Finally, on Jan 19th, after 2 whole days of concern and worry if the seizures would stop, he finally woke up, but this wasn’t the end of his story yet.

Jan 23, 2024 Manuel was finally able to go home with his family. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be a long lasting situation. On Jan 25, 2024 Manuel ended up back in emergency due to his incision leaking, a lot, which resulted in talks about another serious surgery. On Jan 30, 2024, and after a load of tests, scans and discussion, Manuel underwent his second brain surgery. Everyone was on edge, concerned that we would endure a repeat of his first surgery. Thankfully, Manuel woke up the same day this time, with no seizures. On Feb 4, 2024 Manuel was once again released from the hospital to go home with his family.

This family has been through a very traumatic event, and NEED support from us. You don’t just “survive” a brain trauma like that and go back to a normal life. Although Manuel is at home with his family recovering now, the bills don’t stop, the world doesn’t pause, life continues, even if you’re injured and unable to work.

Manuel, you beat every odd my friend, and then some, you fought to be here for your family and friends. It’s time for us to now help and support you in your recover and get back to some sort of normalcy with your lovely, BEAUTIFUL family.

Please consider helping our beautiful friends/family with a kind donation, they have a LONG road ahead of them of recovery, with only one adult working, 2 kids to support and a life to continue.
