Manufacture and Donation of COVID-19 PPE Visors

Donation protected
Hello,

We are a set building and model making company based in South East London. Normally, we spend our time working with the fashion, advertising and retail industries making anything from piano staircases and giant tricycles, to space suits and carousels.

However, like many companies all over the world at the moment, we are currently unable to carry out our normal (if there is such a thing in our line of work) day to day duties due to the effects of COVID 19.

But that doesn’t stop our creative team from coming up with ways of helping during this difficult time. Having access to 6 large volume 3D printers we have already manufactured and delivered over 600 protective visors via the initiative set up by the National 3D Printing Society, with a further 600 due out for delivery this week.

We also have 2 large laser cutters and have developed a laser cut version of the protective visor. This is a much faster process, taking just 90 seconds to cut and a further 1 minute to assemble, vs 1 hour for the 3D printed version. Therefore, we will be able to significantly increase our output. The design focuses around several key requirements, these being, effectiveness, speed of production and assembly, cheap to manufacture, durable, easy to clean and use and comfortable and light weight to wear for prolonged periods. We believe we have achieved all our goals with this simple but highly effective design.
Unfortunately, our current stock of 3D printing materials has now been used up and the sheet cost for the laser cutting material is relatively expensive. This is where you come in. We as a company currently have no work and no income, so we are asking for financial support from anyone who would like to help produce more much needed PPE equipment for our fantastic NHS. All donations will go directly towards the cost of the materials and postage used to produce the visors. Our crew are freely volunteering their time which keeps costs down whilst ensuring a rapid production process. Each sheet of material will produce 70 visors including the clear front sheet and we estimate a production capacity of 280 visors per day. These will be dispatched immediately to health care workers around the country.
We are hoping to start production of the laser cut visors in the coming days as well as continuing to use our 3D printers to produce the 3D printed version.

Thank you in advance for your support and we hope you all stay safe, stay indoors and stay well during these unprecedented times.

From all the crew and staff at Andy Knight Ltd.
