Friends of Manyara Ranch School

Life is improving at Manyara Ranch School. The repaired dorm is now housing 44 children, sleeping on new mattresses and sheets, clean water from 580 ft. below is providing water to all, 100 new double desks provide 200 children with a place to sit and learn, employees are being paid for the first time, which changes their lives, orphan children and those with only a single mother have uniforms and school necessities, and plans are being made for the next phase of assistance. In April, Dave will be going back to Tanzania to work as a handyman and hopes to make repairs on many buildings. Donations for the materials he will need to purchase would be appreciated!

For this year we need:

To say we have gratitude is an understatement. From Dave and I, and all the children at Manyara Ranch Primary School, thank you, thank you, thank you!

$23,000 was raised which did the following:

-rebuilt burned dormitory

-Refurbish dorm- mattresses, sheets, mosquito nets

-repair and replace well motor and solar panels

-purchase 100 student desks

-create employee account

-create student needs account

We still need another 100 beds and bedding ($5,900) and another 100 student desks ($3,000). The employee account needs 1 year of funds ($4,320) and the student needs account (uniforms, shoes, toiletries) ($1,500). ALL donations are appreciated!

We need $6,200 to buy 200 new student desks, $4,000 to pay for 4 teacher aids, 2 cooks and 2 watchmen for one year, MANY more mattresses, teacher’s room furniture (+/- $1500), teaching supplies, student supplies, (+/- $2,000)

AND MAJOR constitution work to rebuild 12 bathroom buildings, create and sewage system, a rainfall collection system, and more. As we say- this is not a sprint- this is a marathon!

YOU DID IT!!! $17,800 has been raised and now even more has come in!! We cannot thank you enough for your incredible generosity!! All that we have dreamed of for Manyara Ranch School will be a reality!! Watch this site for all the pictures and stories when we get to Tanzania. Little did we know 4 months ago when we stepped onto the grounds of Manyara Ranch, how our lives would be changed. In giving we are receiving- a million times more. The dorm is nearly finished and orders are in for the mattresses, sheets and mosquito nets! We’re awaiting the date for when the well repair people are going to start and hope that is soon! 11 sleeps for us and it will be time to take off!! YAHOO!!

Do you want to see where your dollars are going? Engineer Mushi wants you to see his work!! He will be repairing/repainting all the bunkbeds too!! 14 days!! In 2 weeks we will be leaving for Tanzania!! All the flowers coming together means we are so so close to the $17,800 we need to accomplish all our goals because of ALL the donors who have helped!!

THE WORK HAS STARTED!!! Engineer Mushi and his crew arrived at Manyara Ranch this morning and spent the day working and emptying out the burned out dorm. Folks, this is REALLY happening!! We had a few donors yesterday and are getting closer to $13,000 but still a ways from $17,800. ANYTHING you can do to help would be SO appreciated!!

The dorm repair- PAID. The refurbishment- $1,000 short. The well- $4,800 short. $5,800 is still a LOT but the great news is that tonight we reached $12,000!!!

3 weeks from tomorrow we leave and it is our greatest hope to have that $5,800 ready so the dorm will be completely finished and the well repaired.

Today Dave is talking with the engineer and sending him the down payment to get started and to buy supplies, and Friday when the kids leave for their school break, work will begin. In 27 days when we get there, the refurbishing will begin and the well will be repaired. It's all going to happen. Amazing - absolutely amazing!! Time for an update!!

It’s December 1st and that means in 29 days we will be leaving home for Tanzania to help the Manyara Ranch School. In the next few days the children will be bused miles away where they will reunite with their families. The boys will once again herd the livestock, guarding them from predators and to seek food and water. The girls will be helping their mothers with younger siblings and learning skills so someday they too can raise a family.

While they are gone from school, workers will begin rebuilding the burned out dorm. January 1st, Dave and I will arrive to assist in the refurbishment of the dorm. At this same time the workers will be repairing the water well and stringing electric wire around the perimeter to keep the elephants out.

January 7-8th the children will return and what a surprise they will have!

All of this is because of your donations. BUT… we are still short!

As of this moment we have $9,240 in our account and to pay for everything will

be $17,800. Your donations will be so gratefully accepted. Dave and I will not leave the job undone but we sure need your help!

ALL 140 7th grade students at Manyara Ranch School PASSED the Tanzania National Exam!! Woo Hoo Kids!!

The 1,100 6-13 year olds at Manyara Ranch School who lost a dormitory due to a fire, will soon have a NEW DORMITORY! ($6,000). It is now PAID FOR!! Next they need 88 new beds, mattresses, sheets and mosquito nets! ($7,000)

Currently water is trucked in. 1,100 children take sponge baths and drink minimal water. A existing well needs repair at a cost of $4,800.
