We are MapSo SafeRides! We're an organization, loosely affiliated with Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, and the Boy Scouts of America, that is entirely student-run by co-presidents Emily Grew, Peyton Hassler, and Marisa Boily. SafeRides is a confidential, no-questions-asked service that provides a safe ride home to any Columbia High School student who may be in an unsafe situation - whether that be drunk driving, walking home late at night, or simply feeling uncomfortable. Students volunteer to drive from 8:00-1:00 on weekend nights, and students can call our number at 301-541-SAFE (7233) to reach volunteers. We currently have over 50 student volunteers registered, committed to keeping our community safe. Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of teen death in the United States, but thanks to SafeRides, it is almost unheard of in our community. Unfortunately, we actually have to ask our volunteers to pay to be insured so they are able to drive, and because of a lack of funding and the record number of volunteers we have, we are encountering problems getting students registered and insured, and running our club. Any donations would be much appreciated, and will directly contribute to keeping our community safe!
