Mara Lebane - Harness Your Strength

Hello!
My name is Mara and I have a rare neurological condition called MSA, Multiple System Atrophy. It is a degenerative, terminal illness that affects the body’s involuntary controls, as well as motor (physical) control and balance. There is currently no cure, but there are assessment tools and medications that can help with symptoms. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to be assessed in Newfoundland (Canada), and the facility had a Solo-Step (overhead track and harness system). This tool allowed them to easily and safely assess my movements, and made me feel safe, secure, and supported. It was one of the only times I was able to stand pain free, and without the worry of falling over. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
When I moved back to Toronto (Ontario, Canada), I discovered that they did not have a Solo-Step, and I vowed to do everything in my power to get one here. Although it may not help asses my condition any more, I know it can help countless others. It is not only used for assessment, but aids in neurological and physiological rehabilitation for those with conditions, recovering from surgery, head injuries, vertigo…etc.- the Solo Step can be used for anyone with balance issues.
The goal of this page is to help with funding of a Solo-Step System, as well as harnesses, here in Toronto, Canada.
I would like to suggest that you purchase a Solo Step harness ($525.00) in honour or in memory of someone special. We will gladly affix a label to the harness with the person’s name. Please email us at [email redacted] to honour someone.

Sincerely,
Mara Lebane
