Giving Back To Those Who Saved Me

In April 2020, I suffered a life threatening asthma attack. I was not known to be an asthmatic. I was taken to Leeds General Infirmary A&E, by which time I was unconscious so was taken straight to their Intensive Care Unit. My family were informed that the next few days would be critical so I may not survive but they were unable to visit due to covid restrictions.

Due to the skill, expertise and care of all the staff in the ICU I did pull through and was able to recover. However when discharged from hospital, I could barely walk without assistance. I slowly regained my strength and am now back to full health. Everything I have been through has given me the incentive to pay something back to the people who saved my life. This is why I’m running the Leeds Marathon for the Leeds Hospitals Charity.

I will also be donating half of my funds to the Rob Burrow Charity as the marathon is in his honour and he is an inspirational figure who continues to achieve so much despite his adversity.

More information about Leeds Hospitals Charity: Leeds Hospitals Charity is the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals, which includes Leeds Cancer Centre, Leeds Children's Hospital, St James's University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.
