Marathon for Maureen
Marathon For Maureen is a fundraiser that is very close to our hearts at the office of Dr. Joel Singer in Fort Lee, NJ. On November 1, 2015 one of our Team Members at Dr. Joel Singer's office will be running in the NYC Marathon to raise support for Maureen Farrell. We are asking for your help and support to raise money for our team member.
Maureen Farrell has been a part of the Singer Dental Team for over 5 years. If you are fortunate to know Maureen, then you know what a funny, devoted, caring and spiritual person she is. Maureen is more than our team member or hygienist but a family member, a friend and a confidant.
Maureen is also a caring and strong single mother of two wonderful children, Shannon, age 13 and Patrick, 16.
They are her life and keep her going strong.
In Mid 2014, Maureen was struggling with back pain and was scheduled for back surgery. It was discovered that her back pain was due to a rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma . It is a cancer of the smooth muscle and can occur in many areas of the body. Doctors believe that her cancer started from uterine tissue. Unfortunately the tumors spread and can grow in other areas of the body as had in Maureen's case. Chemotherapy and radiation are useful to get the cancer into remission, however there is currently no known cure for this disease.
After months of the difficult chemotherapy, on February 10th, 2015 Maureen had another major surgery to remove an additional tumor wrapped around the vena cava, also involving her intestines. The recovery from this surgery is still ongoing and debilitating.
This has taken a great toll on Maureen and her family both physically and financially. Maureen's strong will, sense of humor, caring and generosity still perservere.
Due to the nature of her profession, Maureen's physical limitations as well as her compromised immune system has prevented her from returning to work.
Maureen needs our help and generosity. The funds donated will go to an account that will help her and her children with everyday living expenses such as her rent, food, utilities, car insurance as well as medications.
