Marcia Schade's Emergency Home Repair Fund
Donation protected
On Saturday, March 9th, 2024, Marcia Schade and her family were hosting a family and friends dinner/game night when there was a huge noise and the floor of Marcia's home fell several inches. Miraculously, everyone was able to get out of the home safely, but the home was severely damaged. The Loveland and Berthoud Fire Departments responded to the scene and we learned that the support beams under the house had failed.
Engineers have since looked at the damage and believe that the cause of the failure is simply due to differing safety codes at the time the house was built. The entire first level of Marcia's home continues to sink inwards and has been deemed unsafe for them to live in until an all-new support system can be placed under the home.
Since the night of the accident in early March, Marcia and her family have been living in hotels while the home insurance company sorts out what repairs they will cover. Sadly, finding a place for their animals has been difficult and costly so, after the fire department cleared the animals to remain in the home, the Schade family has been visiting their home several times a day to care for their cats and dogs there.
This entire situation has been traumatic for the whole family and has uprooted their lives. The process of repairing the damages will take around 6 months and immediate expenses that will definitely not be covered by insurance include Marcia’s insurance deductible, gas to/from their home to feed and care the animals still there, meals because the family does not have access to a full kitchen, and several land preparation tasks like concrete foundation laying and equipment needed to repair the main support beams.
We are starting this GoFundMe to hopefully ease some of Marcia’s burden because of her fixed income. Marcia is a widowed mother and grandmother who initially retired a few years ago in order to help take care of her grandkids after an unexpected genetic disorder was discovered in their family that lead to several members having open-heart surgeries. However, because finances were tight, Marcia returned to work last year as a school bus transportation assistant for special needs children.
Marcia is the type of person who would never ask for help, but would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. Prayers and shares of this fundraiser would also be tremendously appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!
