Marcie Bolen is best known for being a founding member of much-loved garage band The Von Bondies; but what many people do not know is that she is currently confronting the greatest challenge of her life.
On June 15, 2020, Marcie was diagnosed with partial liver failure. Complications of her condition include a bleeding ulcer and pancreatitis. She now requires regular paracentesis treatments and monitoring, and is also taking life-saving prescription medication.
Marcie was recently taken off the liver transplant list because her prognosis improved from acutely life threatening to critical, however, a liver transplant may still be warranted. While learning that her liver is healing is great news, the truth is, she’s far from out of the woods.
Like many, Marcie's health insurance does not completely cover the cost of her treatments and the prescriptions necessary to save her life. The bills are overwhelming and she is already more than $10,000 in debt. In other times, Marcie has always been able support herself as a hairdresser, but, with COVID and her condition, she is able to work only a fraction of what she is used to.
The fact is, Marcie is fabulous. She is kind, gentle, talented, funny, prolific, and a downright delight of a human being. It is heartbreaking to see her endure this.
