In Loving Memory and Funeral Costs of Margaret Evans Corn
Donation protected
My name is Laurinda Seabra and I’m trying to raise funds to cover Margaret Evans Corn funeral who passed away in the Portimão hospital on the 27th July 2024 at the age of 88 years old.
Her pension covered her monthly care home, and other personal costs only, so there wasn't funds available in her account to cover her funeral cost, one outstanding pharmacy account for 356,86€, and other smaller bills. All other costs have been covered as they were paid before she passed away unexpectedly.
Sadly she was estranged for decades from her family living in the UK, and I have no information about them. As a result I found myself taking personal responsibility for her funeral cost, and other outstanding bills. Which is placing a heavy burden on my own personal finances, especially due to the cost of dealing with my own health situation which many of you are aware of.
Margaret was well known in the Luz/Lagos area having lived here for the past 15 years.
I am asking for donations to help cover her funeral and other outstanding expenses as I can't cover all of them myself. Any funds raised that will not be used, will be donated to the Algarve charity (Associação Guarda Chuva) dealing with families in need which department is run by Caroline Lagnston and other volunteers.
I appreciate any help you are able to provide. If you are unable to help financially I would appreciate if you can share this with others.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

PS: A bit more info about Margaret's contribution to the local community and visitors.
In 2011 I started a campaign to stop oil and gas drilling both onshore and offshore in Algarve that would be using fracking as a technology process. From day one Margaret helped me and my team as a volunteer.
At the time there were 9 contracts ready to run. 2 in land covering nearly 90% of territory of Algarve and 7 deep offshore covering nearly 100% of our sea. From Vila Real Santo Antonio to Sagres, and From Sagres to Odemira. We need to take cognizance that the Algarve is a known seismic area especially when talking about fracking.
Through our efforts we managed to get all contracts canceled over a period of 8 years, (it stopped last quarter of 2019), this process included various court actions. Had that gone ahead, it would have had a large economic negative impact on property prices, investments and visitors to the Algarve.
This fight faced many challenges including having to deal with many controlled opposition groups. Had we not succeeded we would have many areas affected ...
When I now ask for help in covering Margaret's funeral costs, Yes I am disappointed by the lack of support from this community and its visitors. Margaret costs deserves support.
You can always donate the price of a few beers or a few meals, if you can't afford it, then a share to your own network will assist.
Margaret did so much for the community over the years. That in spite of her funeral costs NOT being my responsibility, as there was nobody else to take care of it, I took personal responsibility for this account, as I felt I couldn't just ignore it.
I know many of you did not know Margaret, although many others did, and if you are enjoying and love the Algarve, donate as a word of thanks for her work year after year for this community and town that she loved so much.
