Maria Bunn Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Jean, one of Maria’s aunts. Maria is 16 and has been diagnosed with a rare, very aggressive type of cancer. She’s part of a close knit family of 7. Maria is a bright, witty, caring young lady who enjoys art, movies, listening to audiobooks, music, watermelon, Spider-Man, the color green, and spending time with her friends and family and her pet parakeets.
Her parents, Patrick and Julie, and her brothers and sister are reeling from this diagnosis. We all are! Luckily, Maria is receiving the best care possible from her team of experts at John’s Hopkins hospital. She’s been there for more than a month straight so far, and has many more months of difficult and uncomfortable treatment to go, both inpatient and God willing, hopefully soon, outpatient treatment.
As you can imagine, Julie and Pat are extremely stressed and have been running themselves ragged, taking turns at the hospital advocating for, and comforting Maria, during her surgeries, procedures, and chemotherapy, and at the same time, attempting to maintain some semblance of order and normalcy for the other kids back at home. It was already hard to make ends meet for this single income large family, and now there are extra expenses that they could not have predicted or planned for.
I’m asking for help in the form of prayers for Maria and her family, and for donations for the many expenses which have already been incurred, and future expenses, which are sure to come up. Patrick does have health insurance through his work, and they aren’t quite sure yet what’s covered and what’s not covered, but there are costs that definitely won’t be covered, such as co-pays, gas, parking, special food for Maria’s restricted diet (she also has a new celiac disease diagnosis on top of the cancer…), and hospital cafeteria food for Julie and Pat while they’re living at the hospital with Maria. Friends and family have been so generous in donating meals a few days a week for the kids at home, and by taking the kids shopping for groceries and other supplies when Pat and Julie can’t be there for them, or are just too exhausted to shop or cook. Sometimes though, carry out meals are all that can be managed.
Also, Maria is being given daily infusions of blood and/or platelets as part of her cancer treatment, so donating blood is appreciated, whether it helps Maria or some other patient in need. Nothing will truly relieve the crushing stress the family is experiencing until Maria is in remission, but I’m hoping we can ease that stress a little bit by making money less of a worry. Thank you.
