Maria Elena Gutierrez (Ma) Mom and Grandma Funeral

Our mom was a very loving, caring, loyal, patient person. Growing up, we were dirt poor. Even then, she didn't think twice about lending a helping hand to others in need, at times allowing her single mother friends and children to stay with us rent free. My mom was very forgiving, always gave second, third, fourth and fifth chances - too kind to a flaw. That could be, in part, why it was a huge shock when, three years ago, she was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma cancer. At the time, we knew nothing about this cancer. Later, we learned it was bile duct cancer, a rare and very aggressive type. But my mom got better that first year and we collectively became enthusiastic that she was going to beat it. Our mom was really strong and she fought really hard, Blessing us with three more years beside her. With sorrow in her voice, a few days ago, she told me, "I had always thought I would be a strong, healthy, old lady, walking all over the place." It breaks my heart that won't be the case but I thank the Lord for letting us have her for this long. We love her a lot and will miss her very much. We are asking for your help, any donation you can give to help lay our mom to rest. Nuestra madre fue una persona muy querida, paciente y generosa. Aunque no teníamos mucho le gustaba ayudar a los demás. De pequeños, a pesar de tener tanta necesidad en casa, mi mamá siempre se compadecía de sus amistades que se encontraban también pasando necesidad. Nuestra casa era pequeña y humilde pero mi mamá invitaba a sus amigas, madres solteras con hijos, a quedarse allí hasta que pudieran alivianarse y, claro, no les cobraba nada. Ella creía fervientemente en Dios y decía “Dios proveerá.” Mi mamá, también fue demasiado indulgente, daba primeras, segundas, terceras, hasta mil oportunidades llegó a dar. En parte ha de ser por eso que fue muy sorprendente enterarnos, tres años atrás, que le habían encontrado cáncer a mi mama. En ese entonces nosotros no sabíamos absolutamente nada acerca del cáncer y mucho menos del cáncer de vías biliares. Luego, nos fuimos enterando que era un tipo de cáncer muy raro, nada común, pero muy agresivo. Muy pronto, mi mamá empezó sus tratamientos y ese primer año mejoró. Y nosotros nos esperanzamos, pensábamos que lo iba vencer. Ella fue muy fuerte y valiente, regalándonos tres años más de vida a su lado. Con tristeza en su voz, hace unos días, me dijo, “Yo siempre creí que iba a ser una viejita bien fuerte, que iba andar pa’ arriba y pa’ abajo.” Me rompe el corazón saber que no sera asi, pero le agradezco a Dios por prestarnosla por todo este tiempo. La queremos demasiado y la vamos a extrañar muchísimo. Estamos pidiendo ayuda, cualquier donación, que puedan proporcionar para ayudar con los gastos finales.
