Maria Rhodes, Road to Recovery

Hello, my name is Maria Rhodes. I am 44 years old. I have severe Lymphedema, left ventricular hypertrophy, AFIB and PCOS. MY husband is disabled and has COPD and Bullous Emphysema. On July 20, 2022, we called 911 for a simple lift assist. I got stuck in the lift chair I use to manage my lymphedema while it was fully reclined. The firemen who came to help accidentally dropped me -I landed wrong and my leg snapped at the knee upon impact. I was hospitalized for 5 days and spent 2 months in a rehab center. I fractured my left tibeal plateau. No weight bearing for 3 straight months. My muscles atrophied so it’s been a challenge with my preexisting health conditions to walk again. I have been in a hospital bed at home ever since. My Husband has been taking care of me. have been working remotely from this hospital bed ever since. I do make good income and I do have insurance, but we have had to spend well over $10,000 in supplies and services and equipment not covered. We have had to ration food, medicine and suppplies. We gave up our car. We do not qualify for any assistance, we are not approved for any loans. I have exhausted every resource. We have had some angels who have helped us tremendously during this time and we are forever grateful. We are still severely strugging.
