Maria Zavala’s & Mayra Lopez’s Funeral Expenses

Who this will help

My name is Diana Lopez and I’m the youngest daughter of Maria Zavala and the younger sister of Mayra Lopez. Funds raised will go towards their funeral expenses as we prepare to say “see you later” to my mami & my big sister.

Why I'm fundraising

On December 15, 2023, a police officer showed up to my workplace and informed me that my mother and sister had passed away in a vehicle collision. From then on, it’s been nothing short of a terrible dream we wish to wake up from.

My mom was a hard-working woman of faith with a great, big heart to love others with. My mom showed me the importance of not only being strong and resilient, but also kind and loving whether it be to our loved ones or a stranger on the street. She came to the United States, worked at the same company for 10+ years, obtained her U.S. citizenship, and raised 3 college educated daughters, 2 amazing grandchildren, and 3 cuddly dogs. She also hardly ever missed a Sunday service as she was undoubtedly open about her love for God and all his blessings.

My sister was similar to my mom in her greatness. As my mom’s “mini”, Mayra was also known to always stay productive and focused on her goals with an unmatchable drive for accomplishment. Mayra was a great support to our family, especially to her nephew and niece that she proudly and eagerly spoiled and showered with love. Mayra used her outspokenness and commitment to obtain her LMSW and spread her knowledge and guidance as a therapist. She was also very much engaged in her community whether it be canvassing, assisting with campaigns, or organizing groups.

Words cannot fully describe the pain that we are left with after their unexpected passing. However, we are left with endless and irreplaceable memories that assure us and everyone that knows us, that our love for them is and always will be grand and true.
