Maria Zeledon and her husband were asleep in their Vero Beach home this past weekend when a drunk driver crashed through the wall of the house. Maria was critically injured in the crash and sadly, did not survive. Her husband was badly injured but will recover. Four other family members that were in the home at the time did not sustain any injuries.
Maria was a long-time employee of The Moorings Yacht & Country Club ; she was in the Golf Course Maintenance Department for fifteen years. Her daughter describes her as joyful, fun and always smiling. She liked to help people and loved her family. You might remember seeing Maria and her cheerful smile, big wave and wearing her signature straw hat.
Maria leaves behind 7 children and 18 grandchildren who she loved very much. The photo below was taken on Friday, February 26 in anticipation of a celebration of her 15th anniversary with the Club.
Maria's family has been shocked and saddened by all that has happened. Any monetary assistance you can provide for the hospital, funeral and house repair bills they will surely face is very much appreciated.
The fund is benefitting Maria Elena Balderas. Maria Balderas is the youngest daughter of Maria's seven children. The funds raised will be used for a multitude of reasons, according to Maria. The most pressing issue is the repairs to the home as they did not have home insurance and to replace the items that have been lost or damaged. The remainder will go towards excess medical bills not covered by insurance and the funeral arrangements.
