Mariachi Toro Morado at Williams College!
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
My name is David 'Davi' Cañez and I'm currently a freshman at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. I'm originally from Tucson, Arizona-- a mariachi hot spot in the southwestern United States! I have found myself missing my home and culture.
With this homesickness, I've decided to try and bring mariachi, my favorite form of music, with me to the northeast. My co-chair, Gabriella Paltoo Sierra, and I have been diligently working to assemble, run, and teach curious peers about mariachi here at Williams through our group, Mariachi Toro Morado.
Currently, we have members from a variety of different Mexican and non-Mexican cultural and ethnic backgrounds. All members thus far come from all walks of musical backgrounds with intent to learn, respect, engage, and perform music essential to either their own or their peers' backgrounds.
At the moment, we have very limited access to instruments and traditional clothing. Therefore we're working on fundraising internally and gaining support from the Williams music department but I'd like to ask for your help in acquiring funds to purchase a guitarron, vihuela, camisas del Charro, and moños for our group.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to reach out!
