On February 4th, we lost a beautiful soul..our grandma Maria De Jesus Toledo Diaz. This has left us completely broken.
About a week ago we experienced something truly horrible that none of us ever expected. Our grandma was having a heart attack. She was rushed to the Emergency room where she suffered from cardiac arrest. This was not the end of her life, miraculously she was brought back to life. She had heart surgery and were told they did not think she was going to make it another day. She had water in her lungs, high cholesterol, high blood sugar & diabetes. This was all completely shocking and new to us. The next day my grandma was taken out of the ICU and moved into another room where she was going to start her rehabilitation after a successful surgery. This made us all extremely happy and gave us so much hope. We knew this was not going to be an easy road ahead, but we were all ready. Day by day we all took turns being with our precious grandma. Helping her order her food, keeping her company, making sure she felt loved by all of us and supported. She was doing an amazing job getting better.
An entire week passed and finally we were told she was going to be discharged. She looked so full of life and strong. We were all ecstatic for this wonderful news. All she needed was her medication and our support. But unfortunately, we were unable to get some of her medications due to the prescription needing more information from the Dr. I kept doing my best to get ahold of him, went to all the pharmacies in the area but we needed the dr to give the pharmacist better instructions. I called his office, went to the hospital but i was only told he specializes in cardio, and we needed to talk to a primary care Dr for her diabetes medication which she did not have because she had recently moved with us. We were starting to get extremely worried the more i read and watched videos about her issues and what could happen if we didn't have her medications. I called the Dr again where his assistant said she would call the pharmacy to get this fixed.
The next morning my grandma woke up feeling good, she had showered & we were getting ready to go on a walk. We were also hopeful about finally being able to get her the medications. We went to the pharmacy again, but they wouldn't give us syringes unless prescribed by the Dr... Upset about this, we went back home to go on our walk. She just needed to get changed hopefully a walk would do her good. About 10-15 mins passed, we went to her room to check on her and to our surprise she was on the bed leaned over with her phone in her hand. Quickly i called 911 started doing CPR until the medics got here but unfortunately, she had already passed away. This has been all been very hard for us and it truly feels like part of our heart's been ripped out.
Since this happened so unexpectedly, we are now left to cover all funeral expenses with medical bills. We ask for any help. All donations raised will be used to cover all these expenses for our dear grandma to help alleviate some financial stress so we may focus on grieving and healing.
Even if you don't have the means to help financially, please consider sharing and reposting our GoFundMe to help us during this difficult time. Anything helps, including a prayer. Thank you & God bless you
