Marie’s Fight against Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Marie was diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) in April of 2023 at 38 years old.

Lacking the medical knowledge of her biological mother, as well as her family’s medical history battle with breast cancers, Marie’s medical team advised her to undergo a double breast mastectomy to improve her fighting and survival chances, which she did in June 2023. But this is just the first leg of Marie’s journey to beating breast cancer. Marie faces a year-long recovery journey where she will need multiple breast reconstruction surgeries, and follow-up care ensuring the cancer hasn’t metastasized and doesn’t spread to other parts of her body.

Marie and I go way back, we met in 2005, and she has been a dear friend since! I’ve watched Marie go from being this young lady with no care in the world to becoming this extraordinary mother to her daughter, Serenetii. Marie faced many challenges and difficulties as a single mother, but those didn’t stop her! This woman has more degrees than me now! Lol This strong, ambitious, boisterous, and kind woman was determined to not be a product of her circumstances. Rather than feeling sorry for herself, she pulled herself up by the bootstraps, and set about to change those circumstances, be a role-model for her daughter, and improve herself.

When I found myself homeless with a 4-month-old disabled infant, Marie was there to help me find a home for my children; in my hour of need, she was there for me, and now it’s my turn to be there for her. I hope to relieve some of her stress from the financial burden of her cancer treatment and follow-up care so she can focus on getting better, taking care of her daughter, and overall thriving.

Marie’s fight is especially important to me since I work in the oncology space. I’m fortunate enough to work in a space where my contributions can have a positive impact on the lives of patients. Marie is one of those patients for whom my friends in my professional network, my colleagues at work and myself show up every morning for. She’s one of the many faces of our hard daily work. By donating to Marie’s fundraiser, you can also have a positive impact in not only Marie’s life, but her daughter’s as well.

Any and all funds raised will go to Marie and will be used for her medical bills and treatment needs.

Is this something you can help me help Marie with? Can I count on your support? Any donation would be greatly appreciated to support Marie on her road to recovery, and becoming cancer-free.
