Marikarr Maravilla & Family Can Use Your Help

WHEN LIFE TAKES YOU BY SURPRISE.

After a long day and getting his family settled down for the night, Camilo found himself in a frightening situation. Our very dear friend, MARIKARR, Camilo’s wife of 16 years, suffered a stroke and had to be rushed to the hospital. She was found to have a subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured brain aneurysm, a medical condition so rare and difficult to predict. That fateful night changed their lives. It has been six weeks since.

Her team of doctors called her a MIRACLE. We call her a FIGHTER. This is how we’ve known Marikarr since we were in Elementary. Our group of friends is organizing this Go Fund Me Account to join her in this fight.  From being comatose and going through several brain procedures to overcoming complications of acute respiratory failure, she has been fighting every single day to recover and get back to her 2 beautiful kids, Joseph and Summer and her loving husband, Camilo.

For years, Marikarr has devoted her time and effort to kids as a school physical therapist. She was working virtually and was also seeing patients face to face during the pandemic up until she was taken to the ER that day. It is comforting that her job gave her the security of a good health insurance coverage and the privilege of being in the hands of one of the top neurosurgical teams in the US. For that, we are grateful.

She has definitely come a long way. She may have developed neurological deficits, the biggest of which are her inability to express herself (Expressive Aphasia) and severe body deconditioning but she amazes us day by day with how much progress she has made so far. She’s been out of ICU for about a week now, receiving Physical therapy, Speech therapy and Occupational therapy. We are awed by her resilience, strength, and fighting spirit -- truly a blessing. She is also on her way to getting that tracheostomy out. We are hopeful that she will be discharged soon to continue her treatment at a Rehab Center in New York.

Nothing prepares us for this.

“Things do get overwhelming”, as her sister Marissa and her brother Vincent would tell us. Marikarr’s siblings and Camilo have been Marikarr’s beacon of light and hope, despite the stress, worry and faith that they have been keeping all this time. We all know that stress can reach a breaking point - physically, emotionally, mentally and of course, financially. There are bills to pay, kids to nurture and a home to keep.  So we would like to knock on your kind and generous hearts to help get some weight off their shoulders, long enough to let them breathe a bit, secure their grip on their feet, because life goes on.

Any little help goes a long way. Let us be part of her blessing.
