Marilyn M. Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Our beautiful mother, Marilyn Morris Hill, passed away on April 19, 2020 at 68 years old. We are so grateful for our conversations about her final wishes, one of which was that she wanted donations to be made in lieu of flowers at her funeral. Your generous donations will be used to establish the Marilyn M. Hill Memorial Scholarship, in honor of her life and her love of learning.
Marilyn had a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master's degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from Northern Arizona University. Before retiring in 2012, she worked as the reading support specialist at Alchesay High School in Whiteriver, AZ on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
Marilyn was intelligent, patient, tolerant and kind ~ all the qualities you want in an educator. She fostered a love of books and reading in her children, grandchildren and in her students. She had a talent for languages, studied Apache and Spanish, and spoke Mandarin, which she learned growing up in Taiwan as the daughter of missionaries.
We are finalizing details but the plan is to create a college scholarship for a senior graduating from Alchesay High School, beginning with the class of 2021. Priority will be given to applicants who are 1) Apache tribal members, 2) participate in the AHS Book Club and 3) will be pursuing a degree in education with the goal of becoming a teacher.
Marilyn's teaching career impacted so many lives in a positive way. It feels good to know that she can continue to do so, in perpetuity.
Thank you!
