For those of you who know our mom, Marilyn, you know that she is one of the most loving and caring people you will ever meet. She has devoted her life to taking care of her children, parents, and autistic brother. She has always put others before herself, and has never asked anyone for anything. Now, a time has come where she is in need of help from others.
A little over six years ago Marilyn began to have symptoms of back aches and numbness in her legs and feet, and could get no explanation from her doctors. Over the years it has progressed to where she has lost the ability to work, drive, and now even walk and perform many simple day to day functions. This has been very emotionally, physically, and financially straining.
There have been countless visits to specialists including neurologist/neurosurgeon, physical therapist, chiropractor, etc. Some of the visits have been covered by insurance, while others were unexpectedly denied. Recently, she was admitted to the hospital for several nights due to extreme weakness and complete loss of control of her legs. The doctors concluded that her symptoms were indicative of Multiple Sclerosis. So, we are now looking into getting her an appointment at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta which has a great reputation for treating this type of condition.
At this point, we are trying to help her proceed with her life and get her the best care and living conditions we can. However, with the accumulated medical bills and inability to work, she is very hesitant to try anything else and incur more expenses. We are wanting to raise money to help pay existing medical bills, make handicap accessible modifications to her home and vehicle, and explore any further medical options for care/treatment.
We know a lot of you have expressed a desire to help, and in the current situation, monetary contributions would be the most beneficial. Any amount will be greatly appreciated!
