Marine Inspirations

Hello beautiful people,

My name is Asemahle (Theo) Jack. (See my story below)  I am raising funds to support at least one but hopefully two unprivileged kids in South Africa to finish their schooling at Lawhill Maritime Centre in Cape Town. I am hoping that this will enable them to follow in my footsteps and progress to a career at sea.  At Lawhill they do their normal high school subjects together with nautical science and maritime economics.

This is an affair of the heart for me, because I received support from Marine Inspiration and now want to give back and make these kid’s dreams come true. You cannot begin to imagine what this means to someone who is lifted out of poverty and able to feel proud to accomplish something which is unavailable to those surrounding them in the ghettos.

Marine Inspiration is a mentoring program established to introduce the prospects of a maritime career to youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds mainly in South Africa. Year by year they support many youngsters and bring them to Mallorca to improve their professional prospects and offer mentoring while showing them the possibilities of the super yacht industry.

MY STORY - . I was born in the Township Mdantsane, in the town of East London but grew up in Cape Town. From a young age, it was my dream to become a sailor and to work on boats. In 2013 I joined Royal Cape Yacht Club Sailing Academy but in 2015 I was in a bad situation and unable to further my studies due to financial problems.  This is when Marine Inspirations offered me, through the RCYC, an incredible opportunity to pursue my dream job in sailing. Marine inspiration sponsored me to fly to the Caribbean to join the 53 meter motor yacht “Mirage” as crew on a delivery across the Atlantic to Mallorca. This great opportunity opened doors for me and I landed my first paid job through Richard Masters (Founder of Master Yachts Consultancy) shortly after arriving in Spain, which started me on my journey to where I am today. I am currently deckhand on an amazing 52 meter modern classic sailing yacht called “Anne” and I feel that it was through Phil Wade at Marine Inspirations that I am where I am today after nearly 6 years in the super yacht industry. For this reason I feel it is now my turn to send the elevator back to the ground floor to help other disadvantaged kids who aspire to a career at sea.

To do this I need your support, and any donation, big or small can take these kids a long way, maybe even to the top floor!
