Marissa is broke and has a chance to be a Doctor

Hi!

I am an underdog. I grew up around drug abuse, endured sexual abuse and emotional abuse. I was “raised” in an environment that was not conducive for success in education (or life in general really). I broke the cycle but got a bachelors in business instead of pursuing my dream of becoming a veterinarian because I did not think I was good/smart enough. Then I said “Screw that. I am good enough AND smart enough!”. (Side note once I went back for my prereqs I got an A in every single class and tutored others). Got a 2nd BS, published research, and pushed myself further than most as a veterinary nurse. I KNOWINGLY sacrificed my LAVISH AND COMFORTABLE lifestyle as a marketer, my pride, my independence, to trade in for a D.V.M. Trust me, for some it is a sacrifice BEFORE a you ever get into the program.  I don’t even have a bed anymore. All because I KNOW I can’t do ANYTHING else (not meant to do anything else, don’t WANT to do anything else) but try to make a difference in the veterinary medicine field and help as much as I can. I am sacrificing myself as an entire person to advance medicine in research, preserve the animal-human bond that I see and experience with Rowen (I would be dead without her), and change the work culture.

 

Come full circle, financially I have nothing left. I was just accepted to MWU to pursue my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in Arizona. But have unfortunately (so fun) totaled my car. In addition to replacing the car prior to traveling across the country (that I JUST paid off) I have two dogs to bring, have to find/confirm a rental that allows TWO LARGE breed dogs, and pay all the deposits for rent and utilities. The federal loans are not fronted- I receive them a month after classes start. I need to make sure I have enough for gas to work until class starts, and money to eat . All until the loans come in . (Sorry this is a lot of info just want to be transparent). Those that have known me a LONG time know that I am financially responsible and this is something I would have allotted funds for. However, there has been so much falling out of place recently there’s no way I could have planned for all of this happening simultaneously. Even if you are not able to donate, a shout out or share to show support would be appreciated. 

But if I was able to avoid starving before classes that would be ideal.
